*On the plane, as it was taking off, I experienced a burst of butterflies in my stomach. Which got me to wondering what the physiology was and exactly what is happening in our bodies to create such a feeling. My guesses where the nerves that went to your stomach were triggered and you felt the resulting chain reaction as it sent the impulses to your brain. Not a bad guess in my opinion but not exactly right either ha ha. When I looked it up, it had more to do with the flight or fight response that happens when your body is under stress (good or bad). Norepinephrine/Epinephrine (a.k.a Adrenaline), and cortisol is released and as a result. The adrenaline speeds up the heart rate, increases blood pressure and effects circulation. The cortisol along with the decrease in circulation to the stomach, actually slows the the digestion of food to give the blood to the more needed organs of heart, lungs, and muscles to escape danger. It is believed that the vessels constricting to the stomach and the sudden decrease in blood flow to the stomach results in the feeling know as "the butterflies." There's my little physiology lesson for the day (just one of those things I think about!)
*The next one was a funny little boy that made me giggle about how different little girls and little boys are. The little boy started telling his dad a story and it started out like this.. "So once there was this BUTT..." The dad was clearly embarrassed and told him that we don't tell stories like that. So the little boy said "OH, so you want me to tell you a normal story? Ok well once upon a time there was a princess and... she FARTED!" Bahahahahaha I think I actually laughed out loud on that one! Boys will be boys.
*I learned a lesson as I was watching this couple and there children from Israel. The little kids were begging for some candy as we were waiting to board the plane. The mom said "No, but look what I got! Fruit!!" The little kids reactions were just as excited if not even more excited to eat the fruit. Mental note: little kids want sweet things so give them the healthy sugars instead of the bad sugars.
*Finally, as I was walking through the airport to go meet Scott I saw an advertisement that I know I laughed out loud at! It was a picture similar to this one

With a caption that read, "Everyone looks tan on a white sandy beach! Book your vacation today!" I'm pretty sure that the person that thought of this ad has never met me or the SMARTT side of my family! Ha ha I would pay good money to go to a beach that would make me look tan!!
Nothing like people watching to make you laugh and appreciate your family and friends all the more! My favorite people watching has got to be with you in the Hamptons....it was like a revolving door where the next one was just that much better than the one before.
ReplyDeleteha ha cute story! little kids say the funniest things!
ReplyDelete*Here's your next physiology topic to research--what is "brain freeze?!" Just something I've always wanted to know :)
ReplyDelete*And please call and share those eavesdropping moments--like the time called and had to share what that little kid said to his mom in the dressing room! Haha!
*I know if I were on that beach there would be a little kid that would say to his mom, "Look how white she is!!" Yep... Don't want to relive that moment! :)haha!
