Lady Liberty

Scott and I made a little trip to go see the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and Ground Zero. A while back when we were in Vegas and walking down the strip Scott had asked me how the size of the real Statue of Liberty compared to the one there. I knew it was bigger but I couldn't remember how big it was. We found out that it was considerably bigger ha ha (150 ft vs 350 ft and 150 tons vs 27,000 tons). For those that haven't been to the Statue of Liberty, most of your time is spent waiting in lines. We luckily got to skip the ticket line which is the longest one and go straight to the ferry/security line. Once you get to Liberty Island there's not much to do but walk around, take pictures, and buy from the gift shop. Tickets to the top were sold out through the whole summer so that was a no go : ( We got back on the boat to go to Ellis Island. We didn't spend much time here because it was hot and we found out that Scott's grandparents came through D.C and not Ellis Island. Ellis Island would have been more interesting to us if that's where his family went through like we first thought. Our next stop was Ground Zero. Scott had already been but I still really wanted to go because the only other time I had been to NY was a couple months before 9/11. To be honest it wasn't that cool. Let me explain. Right now it is just a big construction site so it had fences up all around and you couldn't see much. However, I do think that the memorial that they are planning is going to be really pretty. We went to a small visitor center that showed what it would look like after the construction. It is supposed to be dedicated on 9/11 of this year so plan your trips after that if you can : )

Waiting in line for the ferry with Lady Liberty behind us

Scott really likes the NY skyline and kept taking pictures of it so I finally made him get in one of them

I just love his face!!

We were trying to get the Statue of Liberty in the pic with us.. she's there, you just can't see her very well ha ha

This was our view of Ground Zero : (

This is what it will look like
"The Memorial will consist of two massive pools set within the footprints of the Twin Towers with the largest manmade waterfalls in the country cascading down their sides. The Memorial pools will each be nearly one-acre in size. The names of the victims will be inscribed on parapets surrounding the pools, within groupings that will allow for family members, friends, and co-workers who shared life’s journey and perished together to have their names listed side by side." -http://wtcmf.convio.net/site/PageServer?pagename=New_Memorial_About
